So yeah, film

Got a question for [info]zodmicrobe Lawrence of Arabia 70mm restore is coming to town in a couple months and I am very excited to go see it. The question is They are also showing Vertigo that was shot in Vistavision and restored to 70mm. Have you seen this print? does it add anything to the film? I have seen the movie several times, but only once in 35mm and never in 70mm.

I saw VERTIGO 70mm like 7 or 8 years ago or whenever they restored it. When they restored the VistaVision masters, they made a new 70mm print master. It's gorgeous. This is the restored version that all the newer video copies have been made from.

Does it add anything? Well, VistaVision was a unique process that had the 35mm film running laterally through the gate intsead of vertically, which meant it used more film per frame than standard 35mm. 70mm definitely makes it look gorgeous, albeit not the kind like LAWRENCE where the movie itself was shot in 70mm. But yes, it's amazing, and I'm actually seeing VERTIGO in 70mm on Saturday.

It sounds like the same film series may be playing here. They are also showing Harold and Maude, not sure of the print quality on that but excited to see it none the less.
